How to Become a Public Speaker

Have you ever wondered what to do with your charm and knack of speaking in front of people?

Have you ever thought that you could make a profitable career out of it?

Professional public speaking is a vocation for people with a flair in mass communication. A career in public speaking does not just involve skills on stage but includes a lot of off stage skills as well.

Before I go into that, lets touch on how to become an effective public speaker; one that may have longevity and great money-making potential.

A public speaker should have a specialty. You should know what kind of speeches you are most natural and attuned with. There may be a specific topic that you find your self most knowledgeable in. Once you are able to determine your topic consider it  your specialty.

In public speaking, your specialty will determine your niche. Your niche is your ticket to public speaking success. Being a generalist will limit your potential. It may seem counter-intuitive but in any business venture, a target audience must be resolved. It is your market. It is where you will draw your inspiration and riches from.

And now, that brings me to the other half of being an effective public speaker. Public speaking is not only about doing speeches; it is also implementing marketing strategies. Delivering speeches is the product and the marketing aspect will sell the product. Poor marketing practices will not get you booked. Your product is pointless if no one is using it.

Great public speakers know how to brand themselves. Are you a hilarious motivational speaker? Brand yourself as a “Motivational Comedian!” are you a near death survivor with something inspirational to share? Label your public speaking persona as “The Miraculous Preacher!”

Those are just simple examples and I know they’re a bit cheesy but you get my point. Branding enhances marketing appeal and denotes niche expertise. Moreover, you are much easier to recall because of the branding.

Marketing yourself as a speaker must be extensive. You should use lots of marketing materials to help reach your audience.

Flyers, brochures, and media ads are just some of marketing tools you can implement. Keep in mind to stay focus with your brand. Emphasize your personal brand in these marketing materials. So that, at first glance, it can be catchy and somehow capable of displaying what you are all about.

Public speaking is an ongoing journey. A lot of learning will take place as you  grow with your career. Ultimately, you will become an authority and people will give high regards to your skills and knowledge.

It may take some time to get to that status but you won’t ever get there if you don’t spend the time promoting yourself in the public market. Make the people aware of your skills and offers and just be sure that you can deliver a great performance.

How To Become A Good Speaker

Ever wondered what type of things you can do with your public speaking abilities?

There many venues for pubic speaking to be performed. Public speakers nowadays come in different forms. Almost anyone from any background can be professional speakers. There many specialties to be considered too.

The specialties are mainly about niches. Each speaker has his own niche and it is very important to choose a target audience because the longevity and profitability of the speaking career heavily relies on having a dedicated audience.

Public speaking has a variety of audiences to choose from. The first thing that usually that pops into mind is the corporate arena. Many think of it as the most profitable and the pinnacle venue for public speaking in terms of profitability and prestige. However, it is not. It is just one of the audiences you have to choose from.

Another audience that is  available to public speakers is in colleges as a keynote or motivational speaker. A speaker can earn tons of money if she knows how to break into that market and deliver accordingly. The youth arena today is a booming public speaking outlet. These days, many aspiring speakers, especially younger ones, try to break into this audience and do so with great success.

There are a lot of other audiences in the market, speakers just needs to open their eyes and be mindful. There are a lot of groups out there that will welcome a competent speaker to help them achieve their goals and provide solution to their problems.

Here’s an example, if you have amazing stuff for housewives and you have vast knowledge in this field, you can settle in this niche and become an in demand expert. Organize small groups of housewives to speak to and eventually your audience base will grow. Being a time management specialist for multi-tasking businesspersons is also another type of department you can venture as a speaker. The point here is that speaking audiences are abundant and they come in limitless categories.

Public speaking is also a great tool for promoting a product. Speeches can be great pitches. Speakers can become platform sellers that will generate income from immediate sales of products. Persuasive speaking is the key here. A lot of inventors or entrepreneurs have evolved into excellent public speakers because they have recognized that they can sell better if they do some platform speaking to represent their products or services.

Public speaking can be done from anywhere. There are a lot of conferences, seminars, meeting and assemblies to choose from. The most important thing is to get out there and promote yourself as a speaker. Jobs won’t come looking for you, but if you market yourself effectively you’ll be able to find more than enough work.

Additionally, speakers can be good in different things; some are great keynote speakers, others are amazing motivators, and some are wonderful in persuasive speeches. Other speakers have also made quite a living in their how-to expertise.

Overall, public speaking is a general profession. Finding your niche, developing a product, and getting to know your own personality will ultimately guide a speaker towards a specialty.

What are the groups that will most likely need motivational speeches?

The answer is that everyone needs motivation. Motivation is the driving force behind every successful endeavor. Uninspired youth, in the future, may become troublemakers and public nuisances. This is why motivation and inspiration is very important to an array of audiences.

It is apparent that motivation is crucial in organizations and companies. Individuals that make up the company needs to focus on organizational goals to achieve holistic success. Motivational speakers can greatly help organizations move their people into focused action. It can even benefit those weary individuals who have lost motivation because of the dullness or tediousness of their jobs.

Motivational speakers in the corporate world are highly paid but are expected to do produce great results. As a speaker you must have an in depth understanding of the industry so you can convey the message as clearly as possible.

However, when it comes to motivation, nobody needs it more than college students. They are always seeking direction and guidance. Collegiate youth are hungry for information and inspiration. This is the main reason why the education system is willing to pay significantly just to have you come inspire or motivate their students.

The college arena for professional speaking is very lucrative. More and more speakers want to break into this niche and it is very common to see dynamic young speakers booked in college conferences. Those that are successful come across as fun and natural and they are highly effective at inspiring the youth.

Keep in mind that there is also an audience at the high school level, and yes sometimes in the elementary levels. It all depends on a speakers chosen expertise and target audience. The truth is that there are a lot of niches to choose from and all are just as profitable.

Motivational speeches can be delivered in a variety of ways. The most usual style is through personal experience. Typically, the best motivational speakers are the ones that have survived a major setback in their lives and have gone on to succeed They can refer to the story of their lives to set examples and give life lessons to the audience.

Speakers who specialize in motivation should make their talks as engaging as possible They should exude knowledge and flair. The style of delivery may vary from each speaker to another but as a rule, motivational speakers should never be boring. You can be hilarious, or very serious, but try to keep the audience interested.

Motivational speakers have a definite place in the public speaking world. They are some of the most revered speakers, especially if they are able to achieve great success. They can also venture in different businesses. Successful motivational speakers are most likely to sell books and become prolific authors.

Combined with marketing and business brilliance, motivational speakers can find tremendous financial success. Flourishing motivational speakers are celebrities in their own right. The expertise and knowledge they put on the table will always be in demand.
In sum, to have a great career in Motivational speaking, all you have to do is target an audience and become an expert in the niche. Experience and reputation building is also vital to boost a career in this field.

3 Crucial Public Speaking Lessons – James Malinchak

Public Speaking is one of the oldest forms of mass communication known to mankind. Since ancient times, it is considered as an effective way to address people. It can motivate and convey suggestive ideas. History proves that public speaking has the ability to start wars, end tyrannies, topple ideologies, create hope, and cease conflicts.

World leaders know the value of public speaking and some had developed this to an absolute art form. History has produced a lot of great public speakers. These people made use of their ability in public speaking to stir emotions and inspire people to act.

Abraham Lincoln’s oratory skills helped end oppression and paved the way for race equality. Adolf Hitler, used public speaking to  instill an ideology that resulted in global conflict which in turn, shaped our world today. In more recent times, US president Barack Obama, used his speech to deliver a message of hope to his dispirited countrymen.

Public Speaking, as the chronicles have shown, is a double-edged sword and it is an effective tool to communicate a message in an effective, thought-provoking and somewhat magical manner.

As of today, public speaking is a thriving business. Brilliant speakers are paid well because we recognize their ability to move and influence people. Public speaking is not exclusive for the political arena anymore.

Now, if you want to learn the art of public speaking, there are three crucial things that you must learn. These are staple principles of an effective public speaker.

Clarity of the message

You speak because you want to put across a point. Public Speaking is a communication process. And if you want to communicate effectively, you got to have clarity in your message.

It is even more important to have clarity when speaking in front of the crowd. You should not send mixed messages that may confuse your audience. Make your message clear and with maximum conviction. Your voice must be loudly audible and use emphasis during certain parts of your speech to get your message across and get your audience to listen and to think.

You want to reach past people’s ears and straight through to their minds and hearts.

Connection with the audience

An effective public speaker makes the audience feel that he is one of them. You have to let people know that you empathize with their current circumstance. The best way to do this is through research and to actually, and truly understand them but that will not be case all of the time. Sometimes, you have got to learn how to fake it.

Eye contact, body language, and facial expression are crucial. Timing is also critical. You must recognize that great public speakers are great actors too.

Practice makes perfect

Public speaking is a skill. And any skill should be practiced to the point of perfection. If you think that history’s great speakers didn’t practice in front of the mirror, think again. It is documented that Caesar, Hitler, and Lincoln are great believers of practicing speeches.

How To Become A Good Speaker by Entertaining the Crowd

There are a lot of tips online on how to become a good speaker. Very often, these tips will encourage you to be presentable, upbeat, they will advise you to always plan and practice your speech, modulate your voice well, you’ve heard the spiel.

I’ll set others aside for awhile and concentrate on the entertainment value of public speaking. After all, speakers are entertainers as well as motivators and informers but they can not achieve these goals if they fail to entertain the audience.

To entertain is to amuse, to catch interest, or to please. An entertained audience is more receptive to any stimulus. Their minds are open and the audience will take anything the speaker has in store for them. Therefore, entertainment is an essential element in speech delivery.

What does it take to entertain a crowd? Do you have to be funny? Do you have to be enthusiastic?

There is no definite manner on how to become entertaining. There can be a lot of ways but I’ll just give general pointers. These are not strict rules but rather universal guidelines that may give you a broader understanding about entertaining the audience in your speeches. Each speaker has his own style. Explore your own approach because ultimately, your personal methods are still the best.

Stories the ancient art of entertainment

Everybody loves stories. No matter what age, ethnicity, or gender people with the capacity to hear and understand are fond of listening to stories.

The audience wants to hear stories because they can relate and may find lessons from them. Stories, especially true ones, are greatly appreciated by the listeners. Humans are naturally gossip-hungry. We are instinctively wired to seek knowledge either from factual events or from products of fiction. This is why we love to watch news and movies on TV.

In public speaking, you should tell stories relevant to the theme. Your stories should be filled with lessons and should teach the audience something valuable. True stories are the best in this situation. If your stories are not appropriate, you can embellish a little bit. After all, the goal here is to prove your points through entertaining and engaging stories. No one has to know if it is true or not.

Laugh at yourself and the audience will laugh with you

Laughing at yourself sets a mood of acceptance of our weaknesses and inadequacies. It will also relieve the tension in the air and will give the audience the consent to be candid. If they realize that the speaker in front of them is just as human as they are, the audience tends to trust and listen more.

Have fun and be yourself

If you pressure yourself to become the most entertaining speaker the audience has ever come to witness, you will never become one. Even though the goal is to inform and entertain, never forget to relax and be yourself. Your self-imposed pressures may go against you. Just have fun with it and be natural.
